The World Bank is offering a free online course from October 23 - November 27 for public managers in the health sector at the subnational level. This course will discuss, in an interactive and facilitated manner, the application of public sector management principles and experiences to health management at the subnational level in developing countries. It is intended to cover topics such as managing a public organization and its staff, managing financial resources, and working with an information technology system.

The World Bank is offering a free online course from October 23 - November 27. The course consists of 10 modules, grouped into 3 clusters:
Cluster 1 asks “Why Health Economics?” and attempts to answer this question by introducing the concepts of equity (Module 1) and efficiency (Module 2).
Cluster 2 delves into what markets are and how they are different in the health sector. Modules 4-7 deal with the concepts of markets, supply and demand, and reasons why markets may not function well in the health sector.
Cluster 3 asks “Who pays for what?” Modules 8-10 are concerned with health financ-ing mechanisms (Module 8), health insurance (Module 9), and funding and remuneration in the health sector (Module 10).
A nine-week, “state-of-the-art clinical and research course” for students interested in tuberculosis and TB/HIV co-infection. Enrollees will learn how to plan and deliver effective care and also address today's most challenging research efforts in communities across the world.
Workload: 2-4 hours/week. Starts: 30 September, 2013. Students who complete this course receive a Statement of Accomplish-ment signed by the instructors.

This new MOOC offers an overview of Alzheimer’s and related dementias as well as the impact on quality of life for individuals affected by the disease and their families. This is a course for anybody interested in learning about dementia and quality care. It is also designed to provide foundational knowledge for health professional students and practitioners including nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational thera-pists, speech therapists, and health care ad-ministrators.
The five-week MOOC — on Coursera — begins October 14. The anticipated workload is three to five hours per week. Students who complete this course receive a Statement of Accomplishment signed by the instructors.
This material is appropriate for anyone who is personally touched by dementing illnesses including health professionals, students in the health professions, or families and loved ones of persons with dementia. No special background is required other than knowledge of English.
Each week will be divided into multiple video segments that can be grouped as three or four lectures or viewed separately. Weekly discussion board questions and structured exercises will be designed to challenge students to advocate for a new and more humane approach to dementia care.
This course introduces you to Health Technol-ogy Assessment (HTA) as a concept (what it is, what it involves) and then takes you through the key stages in the HTA and decision-making process:
- Identifying technologies for development;
- Evaluating these technologies in trials and measuring key outcomes, such as Quality of Life (health economics)
- Appraising and pooling the evidence from these trials to determine the effect of a technol-ogy (clinical effectiveness review)
- Assessing the cost-effectiveness of those technologies (decision-analytic modelling)
- Considering how the results from this HTA process are used to inform reimbursement and pricing decisions in different countries
This course offers a simple and brief introduc-tion to, and overview of each of these stages in the process. However, it uses materials adapted from the online, distance learning full postgraduate program on International HTA, Pricing and Reimbursement. It will be running between 28th October, 2013 - 8th December, 2013.
Participants on this MOOC should plan for approximately 20 hours of study time over the 5 week period (roughly 4 hours per week).
